Simon Rosenberg is an American political strategist, commentator, and writer with decades of experience in national politics and television news.
Background & Early Career: Born in New York City in 1963, Rosenberg graduated from Tufts University. He began his career in television news as a writer and producer for ABC News. He transitioned into national politics, working on presidential campaigns including Michael Dukakis's 1988 run and serving as part of the core "War Room" team for Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential campaign. He has also held roles at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).
NDN and Think Tank Leadership: In 1996, Rosenberg founded NDN (originally the New Democrat Network), a prominent centrist-to-liberal political organization and think tank based in Washington, D.C. He ran the organization until closing it in early 2023. Over the years, he was also instrumental in founding the House New Democrat Coalition and the Democracy Alliance.
Media & Commentary: Rosenberg has been a frequent fixture on cable news and in major print publications as a political analyst. He gained widespread attention during the 2002 midterm elections and subsequent election cycles for pushing back against conventional media narratives of a "red wave," correctly forecasting stronger-than-expected outcomes for Democrats.
Hopium Chronicles: He publishes political analysis, commentary, and data breakdowns on his digital newsletter and blog platform, Hopium Chronicles, hosted on Substack.
